The highly anticipated superhero film, The Flash, is set to have an exclusive screening at CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas this April. The screening will take place two months ahead of the film’s theatrical release on June 16, 2023.
According to Variety, the screening will be the first full screening of The Flash and will take place on April 25, 2023, at Caesars Palace. CinemaCon is an annual convention of movie theater owners where major studios showcase reels, first-look trailers, and bring out celebrities for the yearly gathering.
The Flash has the full support of the new bosses of DCU, James Gunn, and Peter Safran. Gunn recently referred to the film as “one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
Ezra Miller, who identifies as non-binary, plays the lead in the movie. However, in recent years, Miller has exhibited troubling behavior that has led to legal issues and assault and abuse charges. In January, the actor pled guilty to unlawful trespassing in a Vermont burglary case and was fined $500.
Despite this, the co-CEO at DC studios, Peter Safran, has shown support for Miller, saying, “Ezra is completely committed to their recovery, and we are fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now.”
Miller has also addressed ongoing concerns about their behavior and mental health struggles. “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said over the summer. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, and productive stage in my life,” they added.
Despite the controversy surrounding the lead actor, fans of the superhero genre are eagerly anticipating the release of The Flash, and the CinemaCon screening will give them an early glimpse of what’s in store.
