Pink has opened up about her relationship with fellow pop star Britney Spears, saying she feels like a “big sister” to her. Speaking to People magazine, Pink talked about her own upbringing, including her parents’ divorce, being kicked out at 16, and cleaning up her act before joining the music industry.
“I signed up for this life. I came into this world very resilient, very relentless, with a sick sense of humor, thick skin and a bleeding heart,” Pink said. “So those f couldn’t mess with me. They had nothing on my mother or my teachers.”
She went on to talk about the 2000s, a time that is often seen as particularly difficult for female singers due to misogyny and sexism in the industry. Pink recalled an instance where some people thought she was picking on Britney in her 2001 single “Don’t Let Me Get Me,” but said she has always felt like a big sister to the “sweetest person in the world.”
“I’m very protective of her, and she’s the sweetest person in the world,” Pink said. “I wish her well. I cover her in light all day long.”
Despite not being in touch with Britney, Pink’s words show her support for the singer as she continues to fight for control of her life and career.
