
Pulp bassist Steve Mackey passed away at the age of 56, the band confirmed in a statement on Thursday. Mackey had been in the hospital for three months before his passing, and the band described him as their “beloved friend and bass player”.
In the statement, Pulp expressed their condolences and said that they hoped to see him again one day. Mackey’s wife, Katie Grand, also confirmed his passing in a post on Instagram, describing him as “brilliant, beautiful” and “the most talented man I knew”.
Mackey was a prolific musician, producer, photographer, and filmmaker, who had worked with artists such as Florence and the Machine, Arcade Fire, and M.I.A. After the news of his passing, Mackey’s friends and colleagues in the industry expressed their sadness and paid tribute to his talent and kindness. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.
