Actor Paul Mescal, who has been nominated for an Oscar for his role in “Aftersun,” recently shared an embarrassing encounter with Hollywood icon Nicole Kidman during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on March 3.
Mescal explained that he was in the changing room with two co-stars when Kidman unexpectedly walked in. The actor recalled feeling mortified as he stood there in his sweaty underwear, assuming Kidman was the stage manager or someone else.
Despite the awkward situation, Kidman was able to see the humor in it and chatted with the men as they stood around in their undies. Mescal admitted that the next logical step would have been to put on some trousers, but explained there is something “incredibly undignified” about being “bent over” trying to put them on.
The “Normal People” star even hugged Kidman goodbye while still sans trousers, leaving Mescal to turn to his co-stars after she left and ask, “What the hell just happened?”
Mescal gained fame for his role in the BBC series “Normal People” in 2020 and has been nominated for Best Actor for his performance in “Aftersun.” Despite the embarrassment of his first encounter with Kidman, the actor is likely to have many more opportunities to meet with Hollywood legends in the future.
